NMMA And EPA To Exchange Views In Miami

[Soundings: Trade Only (Online), 01/05/2007]

The National Marine Manufacturers Association and representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting during the Miami International Boat Show to discuss invasive species and ballast water. A recent court ruling, seeking to end the problem of invasive species entering the nation's waterways through ballast water carried aboard global commerce ships, could lead to bureaucratic red tape for recreational boaters, according to the NMMA. The court decided that an EPA regulation -- which has been in place since 1973 -- exempting recreational boaters from a permitting requirement was not authorized by the Clean Water Act. The NMMA says the exemption was issued because it would be unwieldy and unnecessary for the EPA or states to issue permits for every boat in the nation.

"The Dealership Certification program is clearly showing measurable, positive results for participants that will lead to increased sales and profitability for Marine Industry Certified dealers."...
