National Marine Manufacturers Association Coverage
Forecast 2007
Thomas J. Dammrich, President, National
Marine Manufacturers Association: The outlook for 2007 is for
another soft year, though I am optimistic we will not experience a
significant decline in sales...Phil Keeter; Marina Retailers Association
of America: I believe there will be some bright spots for well-prepared and well-educated retailers. Those dealers who are
participating in the industry initiatives provided through the Grow
Boating program will certainly gain an advantage over their
competitors. Going through the Dealership Certification program and
gaining the insight on how to prepare their dealership to meet the
demands of the consumer will be invaluable. The ability to directly
access the leads coming in through the Discover Boating campaign
will be worth the whole price of admission... His predecessor's position was that the NMMA should only work with outside agencies to avoid a conflict of interest among marine specialists who are dues-paying NMMA members. Meanwhile, lots of NMMA cash was being spent on monthly PR retainers, and qualified industry PR firms never had a shot at the work. As a dues-paying NMMA member, I personally took umbrage...Blackwell brought splash of optimism to our meeting. He was a horse of a different color. Not only had he hired industry agency specialists (including a few of those in the room) for a variety of projects, but he was totally open to the concept and didn't perceive a conflict... As for sex, boaters do it
better, survey says Among the endless stream of silly news releases we receive daily, this one offered a good laugh all around because of endless opportunities for innuendo. A recent survey of 1,000 people by Discover Boating and Russell Research found that boaters make better lovers. In fact, 67 percent of boaters reported that they are satisfied with their sex lives, compared with 58 percent of non-boaters. Boaters (motor-powered, inflatable, dinghy didn't say) also expressed greater satisfaction than non-boaters (75 percent vs. 70 percent) with their marriages. No response yet on whether that's because one of them is living on a houseboat...
