Dammrich Takes On New Role With RBFF

The Recreational Boating and Fishing Foundation has named Thom Dammrich its new board chairman...Dammrich, who currently serves as president of the National Marine Manufacturers Association, will work closely with RBFF leadership to set and achieve strategic goals...Dammrich also is president of Grow Boating, Inc., the organization behind the Grow Boating Initiative, the recreational boating industry's integrated effort to increase boat sales and improve the boating experience. "Thom is an outstanding leader and is well-recognized for the contributions he has made to the boating industry," RBFF president Frank Peterson said in a statement...Dammrich said, "Increasing participation in boating and fishing is critical for all of us in the industry..."

...First, the 2004 PFD Forum addressed issues dealing with the wearing of life jackets and related factual information and resulted in 4 recommendations issued to four organizations:...the National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA)...We asked for a marketing strategy...and they have provided that information. Indeed, one of the first actions accomplished under this program by the NMMA involved the Outdoor TV Channel; NMMA and the Personal Flotation Device Manufacturers who held a joint signing that the TV channel would support the wearing of PFDS on as many of its shows as possible. I understand that negotiations are nearly completed so that ESPN will also be signing an MOU with the NMMA...NMMA also invited me to assist them in opening the Miami Boat Show...

Marinas Can Get More With $250 Contributions

The Association of Marina Industries' Board of Directors unanimously voted to endorse a plan aimed at increasing visibility and accessibility of marina information by featuring it more prominently on DiscoverBoating.com. Beginning this spring, all U.S. marinas will receive free basic listings on the website. Detailed listings -- including website links -- will be available to marinas that contribute a minimum of $250 per location to Grow Boating Initiative's Rising Tide Fund...More than 2.8 million visits to DiscoverBoating.com were recorded last year, and that number is expected to increase in 2007...

Sailing Excursions Offered At Strictly Sail Pacific

Strictly Sail Pacific will run at Oakland 's Jack London Square April 18 to 22. The five-day boat show will feature more than 300 exhibitors, free seminars and special events for sailing enthusiasts of all ages. "Strictly Sail is all sail, all the time," Kevin Murphy, Sail America national show manager, said in a statement. "With everything from small dinghies to offshore cruisers, and seminars that are geared to every level of sailor, our guiding principle for this show is simple: something for everyone."...


Boat Sales Healthy Despite Show's Attendance Decline

Exhibitors at the Miami International Boat Show, which closed a five-day run on Feb. 19, reported strong sales despite a 6.4 percent decline in attendance, according to the event's producers, the National Marine Manufacturers Association. Attendance this year was 137,175, compared with 146,595 in 2006...
