NMMA Wants Japan To Drop Its Trade Barrier

The National Marine Manufacturers Association stepped up efforts
to persuade Japan to drop a trade barrier against imported boats. The
trade group has formally presented the country with a proposal to exempt
U.S.-made recreational craft from having the CE Mark associated with Japan
's mandatory craft inspection system. In a letter sent to the Japanese
Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the NMMA's
president Thom Dammrich strongly urged Japanese regulators to eliminate
its unique inspection requirement for foreign-made craft having CE
certification...
NMMA Embarks On Youth-Oriented Partnership For 2007 Boat And Sportshows

The National Marine Manufacturers Association has joined with
Captain Kids, a national organization designed to connect kids, parents
and educators to a broad range of maritime activities in, on and under the
water, the NMMA said in a statement today. The partnership will
include a Captain Kids Discovery Point exhibit hosted at several NMMA
boat shows and sportshows throughout the 2007 season. The Discovery Point
Exhibit will be unveiled at its first NMMA show Jan. 10-14, 2007 at the

Dammrich And Keeter To Head Grow Boating

The Grow Boating board of directors recently
elected Thom Dammrich as president and Phil Keeter as vice president of
Grow Boating Inc. Dammrich, president of the National Marine
Manufacturers Association and Keeter, president of the Marine
Retailers Association of America, were elected during a meeting in
Chicago last week...More than $11.9 million is earmarked for the
Discover Boating campaign. Discover Boating is the overall
brand image marketed to consumers which includes the national
advertising and public relations campaign...

fall for many seafaring people. They'll start out in Newport, R.I.,
where the 36th annual Newport International Boat Show opens today and
runs through Sunday. Then it's on to nearby Norwalk Sept. 21-24 for a
31st edition of the Norwalk International In-Water Boat Show...Reigning
over the Norwalk International In-Water Boat Show Sept. 21-24 will be
Sunseeker's luxurious 82-foot Manhattan with an overall length of 82
feet, 6 inches...But boating wannabes can try both at a Discover
Boating Center where unbiased advisers will direct people toward the
best type of boat for them. Free rides will be available on a 28-foot
Triton center console powerboat and a 40-foot Hanse sailboat...Among
other shows to consider are the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show
Oct. 26-30 and the Miami International Boat Show Feb. 15-19, in
Florida...

Boat dealers and sellers
of accessory nautical items will be hoping for good weather when the
annual Norwalk International In-Water Boat Show opens tomorrow at
the Norwalk Cove Marina in East Norwalk. Among them will be Damon
Hussar, manager of Albin Marine in the Cos Cob section of Greenwich, who
views the Norwalk International as one of the can't-miss events
of the year. Show hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m...Shoppers tend to get the
best deals at a show where they can comparison shop, said Jon Pritko,
manager of the Norwalk show for the National Marine Manufacturers
Association, producer of the event...
