The National Marine Manufacturers
Association this morning entered into an agreement with the U.S.
Forest Service to help increase access to boating in the hundreds of
thousands of miles of waterways under the service's jurisdiction. The
memorandum of understanding was signed during IBEX, at a meeting of the
NMMA's Water Access Task Force, by NMMA president Thom
Dammrich and Gloria Manning, associate deputy chief of the U.S. Forest
Service. Under the agreement, both groups pledge to work together to
improve and enhance boating access efforts. They also will expand
outreach efforts to educate the public on safe boating...
Fifty-six boat and engine manufacturers were
recognized at the 2006 International BoatBuilders' Exhibition and
Conference (IBEX) in Miami Beach Friday morning for excellence in
customer satisfaction by the National Marine Manufacturers
Association (NMMA), as part of the association's Customer
Satisfaction Index (CSI) program..."The fact we have more CSI Award
recipients this year than ever before validates industry efforts to
improve product quality and customer satisfaction across the board,"
says NMMA president Thom Dammrich. "These 56 companies are
leading the charge to make the best times in every boater's life every
day they are on the water, and to make boating the number one choice in

Dammrich Predicts "Very Strong Years" Ahead
...Industry sales
declines are expected this year and next year, but with "the wind of
Discover Boating at its back, 2008, 2009 and 2010 should be very
strong years for the industry," Dammrich predicted during a speech at
the International Boatbuilders' Exhibition and Conference (IBEX)
Industry Breakfast this morning...The NMMA president also shared many
Grow Boating goals for 2007, including the certification of 500 dealers
and 350 boat builders, the creation of a National Access Index to
measure access gains and losses (the pilot for which is almost complete)
and the attraction of 5 million visitors to DiscoverBoating.com...Dammrich
noted that boat show producers typically spend $10 million to $15
million in boat show ads per year, a large percentage of which now also
will support the Discover Boating brand.
...With winter months
approaching, boating and outdoor enthusiasts know this is prime time to
visit boat shows and local dealers..."Boat shows offer one-stop shopping for first
time and experienced boat buyers and there are a few key points to keep
in mind when purchasing a boat," said Carl Blackwell, spokesperson for
Discover Boating. "Boating is more accessible and affordable than
some may think, especially when you consider there are brand new boat,
motor and trailer packages that can be financed starting around $250 a
month." With boats for every lifestyle and budget on the market,
first-time buyers should do their homework prior to hitting the show
floor. Discover Boating, a public awareness program on behalf of
