New Energy Law Receives Support From NMMA

The National Marine Manufacturers Association (NMMA) issued a
statement supporting the energy bill signed yesterday by President Bush,
joining the Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) in backing
the new legislation... "NMMA is pleased that Congress passed a
standard, nationwide increase in fuel economy standards that preserves
consumer choice while ensuring the safety, affordability, and towing
needs of the nation's boaters who use light trucks and sport utility
vehicles to tow an estimated six million recreational boats nationwide,"
said Thom Dammrich, NMMA president...
NMMA Gains Provision In
Federal Energy Legislation

…The energy bill expands the Renewable Fuel Standard "the amount of
renewable fuel, such as ethanol, required to be in the national gasoline
supply" to 9 billion gallons in 2008 and quadruples to 36 billion
gallons by 2022, according to the NMMA. The NMMA sought
and achieved a provision in the bill that strengthens the EPA approval
process by ensuring that mid-level ethanol fuels will not increase
emissions from recreational marine engines or damage boat fuel systems
and components...

Merger With NMMA Canada

In a letter to members, the Canadian Marine
Manufacturers Association (CMMA) has released more details about its
potential merger with NMMA Canada... NMMA president Thom
Dammrich told IBI that joining the two organisations would create
'greater efficiency and effectiveness' for the Canadian operations.
'We'll be able to provide better service, less expensively, to our
members in Canada,' said Dammrich...

Jeff was consulting with The National Marine Manufacturers
Association. Their average member had about 1,000 customers in their
files. The NMMA's research indicated that eight percent of boat
owners were in the market for a new boat within the year. Each dealer
had at least 80 potential sales from their own customer list, provided
they were willing to actively contact them to make sure they didn't shop
elsewhere...

...The event, held at the Bahia Mar on the opening night
of the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, also helped to
bookend our year of celebrating YACHTING'S 100th Anniversary. As the
photos will attest, it brought together the best, brightest, hottest,
and salty-est. As for the show itself, pelting rain made a sumptuous
saloon or enclosed flying bridge more attractive than ever. There were
many debuts of yachts, a smattering of celebrities on the prowl, the
usual suspects from Show Management and the NMMA, and a chance to
indulge our favorite passion....

...The National Marine Manufacturers Association has promoted
Cynthia Hare to show manager for the Toronto International Boat Show and
the Toronto Water Boat Show. The upcoming Toronto international show is
scheduled for Jan. 12 to 20 at Toronto's Direct Energy Centre Exhibition
Place. Hare began her tenure with the NMMA in 2006 as the
assistant show manager for the two Toronto shows. "Cynthia has done an
excellent job as our assistant show manager and has demonstrated the
leadership skills required to head up these two very important events,"
said Linda Waddell, the NMMA vice president of Northern Shows...
